High-quality guidelines from different insurers already exist for the planning, installation and operation of sprinkler systems but no uniform set of rules representing the state of the art was among them.

Existing rules had long been considered insufficient. To create clarity, planning and legal certainty, the EN 12845 “Automatic Sprinkler Systems – Design, Installation and Maintenance” was introduced as a binding standard in 2004 for application in Europe.

Today, after five years of application on European level, the EN 12845 is a recognized standard.
